About PCoAR

Black dog on leash

Perry County Animal Rescue (PCoAR) was started in 2009 because of love for animals. The core mission of PCoAR is to shelter lost and unwanted animals from Juniata and Perry Counties until a new home is found. PCoAR will promote responsible pet ownership through spay/neuter education, vaccinations and general pet care. With the help of volunteers, PCoAR has successfully found homes for many animals as well as reuniting lost pets with their families.

Member – Volunteer

Mike has always liked having cats and enjoys their company better than many of the people he knows. He and his wife Jackie have been volunteering at the rescue since 2023. The problem is that they keep adopting cats, although they’ve been holding steady at six for a while now.

Jackie is a person who is better at remembering people’s pets’ names than their kids’ names. Jackie and her husband Mike have been volunteering at the rescue since 2023, as a way to spend a lot of time around kittens without adopting a new cat every year. This strategy was only partially successful since they have six cats (GC, SC, Hooty, Lightning, Wash and Bit), all adopted from the rescue.

Paula Current

Treasurer

Paula says that critters have followed her home all her life and they’ve always been a big part of her life. They have given her so much.  She feels that now is the time to try and return the favor. Paula believes she is finally doing what she was always meant to do and the critters are STILL giving her more then she feels able to give back. Each and every animal takes a bit of her heart but gives back tenfold. Paula feels the animals shame her in the way they forgive, forget, and are always ready to love again. They amaze her!

I’ve been part of our rescue for five years, but my love for helping animals started long before that. I’ve been helping stray cats for as long as I can remember—pretty much since I was a baby!

My favorite part of being involved with the rescue is getting to spend time with the cats and, most importantly, helping them find loving homes of their own. There’s something special about seeing a cat go from needing help to finding a family where they truly belong.

I have a rescue story of my own, too. Eight years ago, a stray cat showed up in my life and apparently decided they had found their home. They’ve been living with me ever since!

I’ve been part of our rescue family for six years. My journey into animal rescue began when my wife met a senior dog who needed help. That experience opened the door to animal rescue for me and gave me the opportunity to turn my love for dogs into helping those who need it most.

I have an especially big soft spot for senior dogs and love being able to make a difference in their lives. I love puppies too—as long as they’re not my puppies!

For me, the best part of being involved with the rescue is simply helping dogs and knowing that we’re making their lives a little better. I’m currently fostering a German Shepherd and providing a safe and loving home while they wait for what comes next.
